It starts with a mechanical, windy rise and has an eerie, otherworldly wobble that instantly suggests time travel, teleportation or something strange entering the scene. Even outside the show, viewers recognize it as a dramatic sci-fi cue. It can make a simple cut feel bigger, funnier or more mysterious, especially when a character appears out of nowhere or a scene suddenly shifts.

The TARDIS sound comes from Doctor Who, the long-running British television series first broadcast in 1963. It is associated with the Doctor's time machine as it appears and disappears, and it became one of the show's most recognizable audio signatures. Over time, fans and editors brought it into memes, parody videos and gaming edits because a few seconds instantly communicate teleportation, time travel or a bizarre arrival.
