The classic "You've got mail" notification voice made famous by AOL, often used in memes, retro computer edits and message reveal jokes.

This clip is the short spoken notification, "You've got mail," delivered in a calm, friendly voice. It is instantly recognisable as an old-school email alert and has a clean, clipped sound that lands in about a second. Because it is so brief, creators use it as a punchline for incoming texts, awkward messages, sudden reveals or nostalgic internet moments. The effect is usually playful: it makes a simple notification feel bigger, funnier and more memorable, especially when paired with retro visuals or an unexpected message on screen.

The phrase became famous as AOL's email notification in the 1990s, voiced by Elwood Edwards and heard by millions during the dial-up internet era. It later reached even wider recognition through the 1998 film You've Got Mail. Online, the clip survived as a nostalgia sound and a punchy meme cue for incoming messages, inbox jokes and old-web edits. It is often grouped with other retro computer sounds like the Windows XP Error because both instantly signal an earlier era of personal computing.
