Layne Staley's emotional 'think I'm gonna cry' line from Alice in Chains' The Nona Tapes, used as a sad reaction sound for failed plans and meme edits.

This short clip captures Layne Staley delivering the line in a soft, wavering voice that sounds close to breaking, turning a simple confession into a moment of genuine vulnerability. His tone is low and strained, with a slight pause that makes the emotion land harder than the words alone. Listeners recognise the raw, almost whispered delivery instantly, and it works because it feels sincere rather than performed. Played over a video, it instantly signals sadness, disappointment or overwhelmed affection, letting the audience feel the joke or the heartbreak without needing any extra explanation.

The line comes from The Nona Tapes, Alice in Chains' mockumentary-style home video in which Layne Staley appears as himself during the band's mid-1990s era. In the clip he delivers the line in a candid, unguarded moment that fans later lifted from the longer video and shared as a standalone reaction sound. Because Staley's voice carries real emotion rather than a punchline, creators still use it for sincere sadness, ironic heartbreak and nostalgic tributes to the singer and the band.
