Ken Laban's short triumphant voice clip saying what about that, used by creators to celebrate a surprising play, a clever comeback or an unexpected win.

This short clip captures Ken Laban delivering the phrase 'What about that!' with rising excitement and a sharp, confident emphasis on the final word. Lasting just under three seconds, it sounds like a spontaneous celebration after something unexpected has landed, with a tone that is playful, boastful and full of energy. Played over a clip, it instantly frames the moment as a mic-drop, making the viewer feel the speaker has just proved a point. Its brevity makes it easy to drop in at the exact second a reveal, goal or comeback hits.

Little is documented about the original recording behind this clip, so it is best understood through how it circulates online as a short reaction sound. The phrase works because it is instantly recognisable as a boastful question after a point has been made, which makes it easy to reuse across sports highlights, gaming clips and reaction videos without needing any context. Its under-three-second length also suits fast edits, where a single triumphant line can close a moment before the next scene begins, keeping the energy high and the joke clear, much like crowd cheering in a sports edit.
