The iconic “but first, let me take a selfie” line from The Chainsmokers song #SELFIE, used in memes, glow-up edits and party joke videos.

This clip features the instantly recognizable “but first, let me take a selfie” line, delivered in the playful spoken style heard in The Chainsmokers track #SELFIE. It has a flashy, slightly obnoxious party vibe that makes any moment feel more vain, chaotic or knowingly unserious. Creators use it to underline mirror checks, outfit reveals, group photos and over-the-top social media behavior. The sound lands best when a video suddenly shifts attention from the real event to someone stopping everything for a photo.

This sound is best known from The Chainsmokers single #SELFIE, released in 2014. The spoken line became the track's signature moment and quickly spread across short comedy edits, party videos and social media jokes about selfie culture. Even people who do not know the full song often recognize the quote on its own. It still gets used because it instantly signals vanity, playful self-importance and a very specific early social media era without needing much setup.

الأسئلة الشائعة

What is the “but first, let me take a selfie” sound from?

It comes from #SELFIE by The Chainsmokers, a 2014 song built around spoken party dialogue and a dance-pop drop. The quoted line became the most memorable part and is now widely used as a standalone meme sound.

Why is this selfie sound so popular in memes?

It quickly communicates a joke about vanity, posing or stopping everything for a photo. Because the line is short, recognizable and exaggerated, creators can use it to punch up outfit reveals, vacation clips and ironic social posts.

How should I use this sound in a video?

Use it when someone turns the focus onto themselves, especially before a mirror shot, front-camera switch or group picture. It works best when the video clearly shows the selfish or glamorous interruption that the quote is mocking.
