The Peter Drury commentary line from Roma's Champions League comeback against Barcelona, used in edits for epic underdog wins and dramatic turnarounds.

This is Peter Drury delivering one of football commentary's most quoted lines the moment Kostas Manolas heads Roma in front against Barcelona. His voice climbs from disbelief to pure theatre as he shouts that Roma have risen from their ruins, stretching the words with the gravity of an ancient empire returning. The clip runs just over ten seconds, long enough to build and land the line, and that slow dramatic rise is why it feels bigger than a normal goal reaction. It turns any comeback into something mythic and slightly over the top.

The line comes from the Champions League quarter final second leg on 10 April 2018, when Roma hosted Barcelona trailing 4-1 from the first leg. Kostas Manolas scored the third goal in a 3-0 win that sent Roma through on away goals, and commentator Peter Drury marked it with the ruins line, playing on Rome's ancient history. The clip was shared widely in highlights, fan edits and social posts, and Drury's theatrical delivery helped turn a single goal call into a lasting shorthand for impossible sporting comebacks online.
