Clip of the canned laughter from El Chavo del Ocho, known in Brazil as Chaves, used in memes and edits to highlight a joke or awkward funny moment.

This is the distinctive studio laughter track heard in Chaves, the Brazilian version of the Mexican sitcom El Chavo del Ocho. Several voices burst out laughing together over about fifteen seconds, rising and falling like a live audience reacting to a punchline. The laugh is warm, old fashioned and instantly recognisable to anyone who grew up watching the show. Dropped over a modern clip it creates a deliberate contrast, making even a small joke feel like a classic television gag and letting viewers know the moment is meant to be funny.

El Chavo del Ocho was created by Roberto Gomez Bolanos and first aired in Mexico in the 1970s, later becoming a phenomenon across Latin America. In Brazil the dubbed version, Chaves, has rerun for decades and shaped generations of television comedy. Its canned laughter became part of the show's identity, signalling gags involving Chavo and his neighbors in the vila. Online, fans lifted that laugh track into memes, WhatsApp audios and short edits, where it now works as instant shorthand for old school, family friendly humor.

What is the Risadas do Chaves sound?

It is the canned audience laughter heard in Chaves, the Brazilian dub of El Chavo del Ocho. A group of voices laughs together for about fifteen seconds, just as it plays on the show after a character delivers a joke or gets into trouble.

Where does the laughter from Chaves come from?

The laugh comes from the original Mexican sitcom El Chavo del Ocho, created by Roberto Gomez Bolanos in the 1970s. Brazil's dubbed version kept the same laugh track, which became familiar through decades of reruns on Brazilian television.

How do creators use the Chaves laugh in videos?

Creators place it immediately after a punchline, fail or embarrassing moment to imitate a classic sitcom reaction. It works best in short comedy edits, reaction videos and nostalgic Chaves memes where the exaggerated audience laugh sells the joke.
