Freddy Krueger's raspy, menacing laugh from the Nightmare on Elm Street films, used in horror edits, Halloween videos and pranks to mark a villain's arrival.

This is Freddy Krueger's unmistakable laugh, a low, raspy cackle that rises and falls with cruel delight, instantly evoking the burned, razor-gloved killer from the Nightmare on Elm Street films. Lasting just over six seconds, it builds from a mocking chuckle into a fuller, echoing laugh that feels both playful and threatening. Hearing it immediately puts viewers on edge, because it signals that something sinister is about to happen or that a joke has taken a dark turn. It works best as a sudden punchline after a scare, a reveal, or a mischievous moment, giving even a short clip a horror-movie atmosphere.

Freddy Krueger first appeared in Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984, played by Robert Englund as a burned killer who attacks teenagers in their dreams. His mocking laugh became one of the character's signatures across the long-running film series, instantly signalling cruelty and dark humour rather than simple fear. As horror clips spread on video platforms and soundboards, the laugh was lifted out of its scenes and reused as a standalone reaction. It remains popular at Halloween and in horror memes because it is recognisable within a second, even without any picture.
