Arua is the word aura played in reverse, creating a short distorted vocal effect used in edits, memes and reaction videos for a weird, cursed vibe.

Arua is simply the word aura spoken backwards, and that small reversal turns a familiar term into something strange and unsettling. The syllables land in the wrong order, with a warped, almost demonic tone that feels like a glitch or a cursed voice note. It lasts only a moment but immediately changes the mood of a clip, making an ordinary scene feel off, funny or slightly haunted. Creators use that dissonance for punchlines where confidence, energy or supernatural power is being mocked or flipped on its head.

Arua comes from the Portuguese description aura ao contrario, meaning aura in reverse, which explains the reversed spelling of its name. The clip circulated as a tiny soundboard sound rather than from a known film, song or show. Online, aura became slang for cool confidence and social points, so flipping it backwards created a ready-made joke for the opposite effect. Editors and meme pages picked up the reversed version for short-form videos, where a single strange word can signal failure, embarrassment or a cursed energy shift without any extra explanation needed.
