The three short beeps and one long beep from Namco's Pole Position arcade game, used for retro race countdowns, gaming edits, and timed reveals.

This five-second sound features three brief electronic beeps followed by a longer sustained tone. The sequence comes from Pole Position, Namco’s classic racing arcade game, and carries the crisp, mechanical character of early video game audio. Its evenly spaced pulses build anticipation before the extended final beep signals a start, deadline, or completed countdown. For viewers, the pattern creates a quick moment of tension and release while adding an unmistakably retro arcade feel to racing clips, challenge videos, nostalgic montages, and comedic timing edits.

Namco released Pole Position as an arcade racing game in 1982. It was the first racing video game to feature a course based on a real racing circuit, using Japan’s Fuji Speedway as its setting. Its simple electronic cues complemented the cabinet’s fast, timed gameplay and became familiar through arcades and later home versions. The three-short, one-long beep pattern remains useful because it communicates a countdown without speech, while its distinctly early-1980s tone immediately suggests classic racing games and arcade nostalgia.
