The classic Wilhelm scream sound effect from film and TV, used in edits, memes and fail clips to add a dramatic, instantly recognizable yell.

The Wilhelm Scream is a short, high-pitched human yell that has become one of the most famous stock sound effects in movies. It sounds exaggerated, sudden and slightly comedic, which is why it often lands somewhere between real panic and an inside joke. Editors use it when someone falls, gets launched, or takes a hit on screen, because the scream instantly makes the moment feel bigger and more dramatic while also giving it a playful, self-aware tone that many viewers recognize right away.

The Wilhelm Scream is a famous stock scream effect widely associated with Hollywood sound design. It was recorded for an earlier film and became known after being used for a character named Private Wilhelm in the 1953 western The Charge at Feather River. Sound designers later reused it across many movies, especially adventure, sci-fi and action titles, turning it into a long-running in-joke. It remains popular online because viewers instantly connect it with dramatic falls, hits and exaggerated action moments, much like a FNAF Jumpscare Scream in gaming edits.
