The exasperated voice clip from Asdfmovie 1 asking why someone would do something, used in reaction videos and memes for failed plans and bad decisions.

This short clip captures a frustrated, incredulous voice demanding to know why someone would do something so obviously wrong. Delivered in the fast, deadpan style of Asdfmovie, the line lands with rising disbelief before cutting off abruptly, leaving the absurdity to hang in the air. It sounds like a cartoon character reacting in real time to a terrible decision, half shocked and half annoyed, which makes it instantly relatable. Played over a fail, a prank gone wrong, or an unexpected choice, it turns confusion into comedy and gives viewers a voice for their own disbelief.

This line comes from Asdfmovie 1, the first entry in TomSka's long-running series of short, surreal animated sketches on YouTube. The series built its following on rapid-fire jokes, absurd characters and deadpan delivery, and short voice lines like this one were quickly lifted into reaction videos and meme edits. Because the question works for almost any foolish or self-defeating moment, editors kept reusing it long after the original sketch, and it now functions as a shorthand for disbelief in gaming clips, fails and commentary videos.

It's a short, incredulous voice clip asking why someone would make an obviously bad choice. Creators use it as a reaction to fails, poor decisions and absurd moments in videos and memes.

Where does the "Why would you do this" sound come from?

It comes from Asdfmovie 1, the first instalment of TomSka's animated sketch series on YouTube. The line is lifted from one of its short, surreal sketches and is now widely shared as a standalone reaction clip.

How do creators use this sound in edits?

Editors usually place it immediately after a bad decision or fail is shown, often with a zoom or freeze frame. It works best once per video, without competing music, so the frustrated reaction remains the punchline.
