A short clip from System of a Down’s “Vicinity of Obscenity,” featuring the rapid banana terracotta pie refrain, used in chaotic edits and jokes.

This energetic music clip features the rapid “banana, banana, banana, terracotta” refrain from System of a Down’s song “Vicinity of Obscenity.” Serj Tankian’s sharply articulated vocals bounce over an aggressive, rhythmically unpredictable metal arrangement, giving the excerpt a frantic and absurd character. The repeated food imagery makes the line instantly memorable, even outside the context of the full song. In videos, its abrupt vocal pattern can make a confusing reveal, strange meal, escalating montage, or deliberately nonsensical moment feel even more chaotic and comical.

The terracotta pie lyric comes from “Vicinity of Obscenity” by Armenian-American metal band System of a Down. The track appeared on the band’s 2005 album Hypnotize and features lead vocalist Serj Tankian delivering surreal, food-centered lines over the group’s alternative metal sound. Its repeated banana and terracotta phrases became especially quotable online because they are rhythmic, unusual, and easy to isolate from the song. The excerpt remains useful for absurdist humor, rapid edits, food jokes, and references recognized by longtime fans.
