Roundball Rock is the iconic NBA on NBC theme song, a fast synth and horn instrumental used for basketball highlights, dunks and game intros.

Roundball Rock is a driving instrumental built around bright synthesizers, punchy horns, a bouncing bassline and a steady drum beat that feels like a ball moving down the court. The melody rises and loops with urgent energy, instantly signalling tip-off, fast breaks and highlight plays. Even in a short clip it creates a sense of big-game television, turning an ordinary dunk or layup into something dramatic and celebratory. Listeners recognize the tune within seconds, and that familiarity makes it work as an instant shorthand for classic basketball excitement, nostalgia and momentum in any sports edit or meme.

Roundball Rock was composed by John Tesh for the NBA on NBC broadcasts and debuted in 1990, becoming the defining sound of the network's basketball coverage through 2002. Its urgent tempo and triumphant horns played over crowd cheering and game introductions during the era of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls dynasty. After years away from national broadcasts, the theme retained cult status online through highlights, parodies and nostalgia edits, and its return with NBC's renewed NBA coverage renewed interest among younger fans who knew it only as a meme.
