Gwlad Gwlad is the powerful chorus from Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, the Welsh national anthem, sung loudly by fans at rugby and football matches across Wales.

This clip captures the most rousing moment of the Welsh national anthem, the repeated cry of Gwlad, Gwlad, meaning country, country in Welsh. It is sung in full voice, usually by a large crowd or choir, with a rising, heartfelt intensity that builds patriotic emotion. The sound is warm, powerful and unmistakably Welsh, carrying pride, unity and a sense of home. Hearing it instantly places you in a stadium before a big match, where thousands sing together and the final notes linger with passion and belonging.

Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau was written in 1856 by Evan James with music by his son James James in Pontypridd, and it gradually became the unofficial Welsh national anthem. Its chorus pleads for the land to endure, ending with the emphatic Gwlad, Gwlad cry. The anthem was first sung at major sporting events in the early 1900s and is now a fixture before Wales rugby and football internationals. Clips mixing crowd cheering with this chorus have spread widely online, making this short section a recognisable symbol of Welsh identity.
