For the Damaged Coda is the haunting piano theme by Blonde Redhead, known as Evil Morty's theme in Rick and Morty and used for sad, dramatic meme edits.

This is the melancholic piano passage from For the Damaged Coda, built around a slow, repeating motif that feels elegant and unsettling at the same time. The notes hang in the air with a sense of loss, as if something important has already slipped away and cannot be undone. There is no sudden drop or punchline, just a steady emotional weight that grows as the phrase returns. Viewers instantly read it as grief, betrayal or a quiet villain reveal, which makes even ordinary footage feel cinematic, tragic and strangely final.

For the Damaged Coda is the closing track on Blonde Redhead's 2000 album Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons. It gained a second life after featuring in Rick and Morty as the theme associated with Evil Morty, first in the 2014 episode Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind. That placement linked its somber piano to a calm, calculating antagonist, and clips later spread across YouTube and TikTok as a shorthand for sadness and revelation. It remains popular because viewers recognise the mood instantly, even without knowing the original song.
