The iconic Ankara Messi chant by commentator Peter Drury celebrating Lionel Messi, used in football edits, memes and hype highlight videos.

This is Peter Drury's legendary football commentary line where he repeats "Ankara Messi" over and over with rising excitement as Lionel Messi dribbles through defenders. The chant-like delivery builds tension and awe, turning a simple name repetition into pure football euphoria. It sounds electric, rhythmic and instantly recognisable, which is why editors use it to make any Messi clip feel bigger and more dramatic.

The phrase comes from Peter Drury's commentary during a Lionel Messi performance for FC Barcelona, where Drury famously linked Messi to Ankara in a poetic, repetitive chant. Clips of the moment spread widely on YouTube, TikTok and football Twitter, becoming shorthand for Messi's genius. Fans and editors now reuse the audio far beyond the original match, applying it to edits, memes and parodies whenever someone weaves through opponents, and it remains one of the most quoted Drury lines.
