The opening theme from Doctor Who, the iconic sci-fi series. The short electronic intro is used for time travel reveals and dramatic entrances.

This is the opening theme sting from Doctor Who, built around its famous swirling electronic melody and pulsing bassline. The clip captures the eerie, otherworldly sound that signals the TARDIS, time travel and adventure arriving all at once. It feels mysterious and slightly unsettling rather than heroic, which is why it works so well as an instant atmosphere setter. Viewers recognise it in a second, and the rising synth tones create anticipation before anything has even happened on screen, making even an ordinary entrance feel cosmic and important.

Doctor Who first aired on the BBC in 1963, and its theme was composed by Ron Grainer and realised electronically by Delia Derbyshire at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Created without conventional instruments, it became one of television's earliest and most recognisable electronic themes. The music has been rearranged for each new era of the Doctor but the core melody remains unchanged. Online, fans reuse short opening clips for edits, parodies and tributes, where the sound alone instantly signals time travel and British sci-fi nostalgia.
