About this sound

An 11-second zzzzz sleeping sound effect of unknown origin, used in videos to suggest snoring, deep sleep, boredom, or comic exhaustion.

This 11-second clip is labeled “zzzzz,” the familiar written shorthand for sleeping or snoring. Its specific source is not confirmed, so it works best as a general audio cue rather than a recognizable quotation or scene. Creators can use the extended sound to establish that someone is asleep, has mentally checked out, or finds a situation painfully dull. The length also leaves room for a lingering visual gag, such as a motionless character, an empty reaction shot, or an exaggerated pause before someone suddenly wakes up.

The original production, performer, and release date for this clip are not documented. Its “zzzzz” label follows a long-established visual convention in cartoons, comics, captions, and online posts, where repeated Z letters represent sleep or snoring. Short clips using this idea remain useful because viewers understand the joke immediately, even without dialogue or context. The sound commonly supports sleep reveals, boredom edits, awkward pauses, and comic exhaustion, while its extended duration gives editors flexibility to trim it around a scene.
