About this sound

Lurch's deep 'You rang?' line from The Addams Family, used in memes, reaction edits and joke replies when someone gets summoned.

This clip is the classic moment where Lurch answers with a slow, deadpan "You rang?" in his deep, gravelly voice. The delivery is calm, formal and slightly spooky, which makes it instantly funny when dropped after a dramatic pause or an over-the-top call for help. Even though the line is short, it has a strong character presence that viewers recognize right away. It works best as a dry reaction sound, especially in edits where someone unexpectedly appears, responds to a summon, or leans into gothic comedy.

The line is associated with Lurch, the towering butler from The Addams Family. "You rang?" became one of the character's best-known catchphrases and has stayed recognizable through reruns, adaptations, quotes and online meme culture. People still use the sound because the delivery is so distinct: deep, polite and slightly eerie at the same time. That makes it useful far beyond Addams Family references, especially in reaction videos, skits and edits built around being summoned at exactly the wrong moment.
