About this sound

A brief wow reaction followed by chirping crickets from online meme edits, used to underline awkward silence, failed jokes, or an unimpressed audience.

This short reaction clip combines an emphatic “wow” with the sparse chirp of crickets. The contrast turns initial surprise into an uncomfortable pause, as though a room has gone silent after someone expected applause or laughter. Because the audio lasts only a few seconds, it delivers a complete comedic beat without slowing an edit. Viewers immediately read the crickets as embarrassment, indifference, or total lack of response, while the opening exclamation adds an extra layer of exaggerated disbelief to the moment.

The clip’s precise production source and original uploader are not reliably documented. It belongs to a long-running style of online reaction editing in which cricket chirps signal that a joke, announcement, or performance received no response. Adding “wow” makes the pause feel even more sarcastic and conspicuous. Short meme sounds like this spread through reposted videos, soundboards, and social clips rather than one clearly credited work. It remains useful because audiences understand the silence-and-crickets convention immediately, much like the abrupt emphasis of a Vine Boom.
