About this sound

The iconic GTA Wasted death sound from Grand Theft Auto, used in meme edits, fail clips and sudden knockout moments to mimic a game over screen.

This sound is the familiar GTA death cue associated with the on-screen Wasted message in Grand Theft Auto. It is short, dramatic and instantly readable, usually felt as a heavy hit that signals total failure in a funny way. In edits, it turns an ordinary mistake, crash or bad decision into a punchline that feels like a video game death. Because the cue is so recognizable, viewers immediately understand the joke, even when the clip itself has nothing to do with GTA.

The Wasted cue comes from the Grand Theft Auto series, where the player death screen shows the word Wasted. It became a widespread meme through gameplay clips and short-form edits, especially when creators wanted to frame a mistake like an instant loss. The format stayed popular because the joke is simple and universal: one sharp sound can turn any blunder into a recognizable fail moment, much like the FAIL SOUND MEME used in older internet edits.
