About this sound

A short clip of the USSR national anthem, widely used in memes, edits and ironic videos to give a dramatic Soviet or communist punchline.

This sound is a brief excerpt of the USSR anthem, a powerful orchestral and choral piece with a grand, marching feel. Even in a short clip, it sounds bold, solemn and instantly recognisable to many meme viewers. Creators use it to turn ordinary moments into exaggerated Soviet-style jokes, usually for irony, sudden contrast or mock seriousness. It works especially well when a video cuts from something normal to something overly intense, patriotic or suspiciously red, making the scene feel dramatic in a deliberately over-the-top way.

This sound comes from the State Anthem of the Soviet Union, one of the most recognisable national anthems of the 20th century. Online, short excerpts became a long-running meme in image macros, video edits and gaming clips, usually to signal a Soviet, communist or Russia-adjacent joke. Its spread owes a lot to the anthem's instantly dramatic opening and the way it creates an exaggerated sense of seriousness in just a few seconds. That combination keeps it popular in ironic meme culture.
