About this sound

The Trolololo song is Eduard Khil's wordless Soviet-era vocal performance, used in memes to troll friends or score smug, absurd moments online.

This clip captures the instantly recognizable “tro-lo-lo” refrain sung by Russian baritone Eduard Khil over a bright orchestral arrangement. Instead of conventional lyrics, Khil performs a flowing series of cheerful syllables with an expressive smile and theatrical delivery. The upbeat melody and exaggerated vocal style create a strangely triumphant, playful mood. Online, the sound often makes an ordinary scene feel knowingly ridiculous, especially when someone succeeds through luck, causes harmless trouble, or walks away looking unusually pleased with themselves.

The melody comes from “I Am Very Glad, as I'm Finally Returning Back Home,” composed by Arkady Ostrovsky and performed by Eduard Khil. A 1976 Soviet television recording shows Khil singing the tune with non-lexical vocal sounds rather than standard lyrics. The performance reached a new international audience when the video spread widely online in 2010. Viewers nicknamed Khil “Mr. Trololo,” and the cheerful refrain became closely associated with trolling, playful victories, ironic confidence, and surreal video edits.
