About this sound

The famous 'Do you know the Muffin Man?' clip from Shrek, used in memes, edits and reaction posts for awkward reveals and absurd punchlines.

This sound is the memorable 'The Muffin Man' exchange from Shrek, where the question is repeated with a dramatic pause before the punchline lands. The clip has a storybook voice performance and a slightly theatrical delivery that makes even a simple line sound weirdly intense. In memes, that contrast is the whole joke. People use it to build suspense around something trivial, set up a goofy reveal, or make a normal conversation feel overly serious in a fun, recognizable way.

This sound comes from the 2001 animated film Shrek during the interrogation scene about Gingy. The exchange became a long-running internet meme because the delivery turns a nursery-rhyme reference into an oddly dramatic moment. It spread through quote compilations, remixes, YouTube edits, and short-form meme videos, where creators use it as a setup for an absurd reveal or a deliberately overblown joke. Its staying power comes from how instantly recognizable the line is, even to casual viewers.
