About this sound

The classic Tagesschau intro music and gong from the German TV news broadcast, often used in memes, parody news edits and announcement videos.

This clip features the unmistakable Tagesschau opening melody with its solemn brass-led theme and the familiar news-style gong. The sound is short, formal and instantly signals that something important is about to be announced. Because it is so strongly associated with serious television news in Germany, creators often use it for fake breaking-news intros, ironic reveals or dramatic updates. Even without a presenter speaking, the music alone creates a sense of authority, urgency and official weight that makes everyday topics feel absurdly significant.

This sound is the older Tagesschau opening melody used before 2014 for Germany's long-running television news program Tagesschau. The intro became widely recognizable through decades of daily broadcast on ARD, especially in German-speaking countries. Online, the theme spread beyond television clips into memes, parody news intros and ironic announcement edits because a few seconds of the music immediately suggest an official bulletin. Its staying power comes from that instant association with formal, serious news presentation.
