About this sound

The eerie synth intro from the Stranger Things television series, used in edits, throwback videos, and suspenseful clips needing an ominous 1980s mood.

This 25-second clip captures the opening of the Stranger Things theme, built from pulsing analog-style synthesizers and a slowly unfolding melodic pattern. There is no dialogue; the sound relies on a steady electronic rhythm, deep bass tones, and bright notes that seem to flicker in the distance. Its restrained pace creates tension without a sudden scare, making a scene feel mysterious, retro, or faintly threatening. Because the melody is closely associated with the series, viewers can recognize the reference quickly, even before a title card or visual joke appears.

The Stranger Things title theme was composed by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, members of the electronic group Survive. It debuted with the television series in 2016 and reflects the synthesizer-driven style associated with 1980s science fiction and horror scores. The opening sequence paired its repeating electronic motif with glowing red typography, helping make the music immediately identifiable. It continues to appear in fan edits, nostalgic videos, parodies, and suspense clips because a few notes can quickly suggest supernatural danger and retro atmosphere.
