About this sound

The familiar four-note SNCF station jingle, heard before railway announcements in France and used in travel edits, memes, and transport videos.

This short clip captures SNCF's recognizable four-note audio signature, a bright sequence of synthesized tones played before many station and onboard announcements in France. Its quick rise and tidy resolution create a polished, anticipatory feeling, as if important travel information is about to follow. Because the melody is closely associated with French rail journeys, it can instantly establish a station setting, trigger travel nostalgia, or add an unexpectedly formal transit cue to a comic edit. The clean chime remains easy to recognize even under dialogue.

SNCF introduced this four-note sonic identity in 2005 as part of the French railway company's updated branding. It was created by composer and sound designer Michaël Boumendil, founder of the audio branding agency Sixième Son. The melody became familiar through repeated use before announcements across the French rail network. British musician David Gilmour later adapted the notes for “Rattle That Lock” after hearing the jingle at a station and obtaining permission, giving the compact railway melody recognition beyond France.
