About this sound

A short clip of the song people associate with Shrek, used for ogre jokes, nostalgic movie edits and ironic sad memes about the 2001 film.

This clip is the familiar music people call the Shrek theme song, instantly tied to the green ogre and the opening vibe of the first film. It has a bright, upbeat pop-rock feel that quickly triggers nostalgia, then turns funny when dropped into absurd edits or over-the-top dramatic scenes. Creators use it for Shrek references, unexpected character reveals, old internet humor and fake emotional montages where the contrast between the song and the visuals makes the joke land harder.

Online, the phrase Shrek theme song usually refers to the music most strongly associated with the first Shrek film, released in 2001. The track became a long-running meme because Shrek itself grew into a huge internet in-joke, shared in remixes, YTP-style edits and nostalgic posts. People still use this clip because it is recognized within a second and immediately signals ogre humor, early-2000s nostalgia or a deliberately overdramatic setup for a visual gag.
