About this sound

Sad Violin, also known as Fat Tony's Tune, comes from The Simpsons season 12 and suits gloomy reactions, failed plans, and mock-tragic edits.

This short musical clip features Fat Tony playing a slow, mournful violin melody in The Simpsons. The deliberately sentimental tune accompanies a scene involving the violin belonging to Krusty the Clown’s daughter, turning the instrument into part of the joke. Its drawn-out notes create an exaggerated feeling of sorrow, disappointment, or defeat. Because the sadness is so theatrical, the audio can make a genuinely unfortunate moment feel heavier or transform a minor setback into dry comedy. The recognizable cartoon context also gives reaction videos a nostalgic touch.

The tune appears in “Insane Clown Poppy,” the third episode of The Simpsons season 12, first broadcast in 2000. In the episode, Krusty reconnects with his daughter Sophie, whose violin becomes involved in his dealings with Fat Tony. Fat Tony later plays the instrument, creating the mournful musical moment heard in this clip. The scene remains useful online because its solemn melody contrasts neatly with trivial failures, awkward outcomes, and deliberately overdramatic reactions, while its Simpsons origin makes it immediately familiar to many viewers.
