About this sound

The iconic Careless Whisper sax riff from George Michael and Wham!, widely used as a romantic or cheeky meme sound in edits and reaction clips.

This clip features the instantly recognisable opening saxophone riff from Careless Whisper, the George Michael and Wham! hit that became a shorthand for romance, seduction and playful irony online. The smooth sax tone starts soft and dramatic, then lands with a glossy, emotional punch that viewers know within a second. In memes, that familiar intro can turn an ordinary glance, awkward pose or flirty joke into something exaggerated and funny. It works because the sound feels both sincerely romantic and knowingly over-the-top at the same time.

This sound comes from the opening sax hook of Careless Whisper, a 1984 pop hit by George Michael, released during the Wham! era. Over time, that short sax phrase became a meme far beyond the original song, especially in reaction videos, romance parodies and thirst edits. People often call it sexy sax because it instantly signals smooth, seductive or mock-romantic energy. It remains popular because the first notes are so widely recognised and easy to use as a quick comedic reveal.
