About this sound

A chilling nine-second horror laugh sound effect of unknown origin, used in scary videos, jump-scare edits, Halloween clips, and sinister reaction memes.

This clip features a sustained, theatrical laugh with a dark and unsettling horror tone. Running for roughly nine seconds, it gives editors enough time to build tension or linger on a disturbing reveal. The exaggerated laughter suggests a villain, possessed character, or unseen threat without relying on spoken dialogue. Its eerie delivery can make an ordinary scene feel sinister, turn a character’s expression into something menacing, or add a playful haunted-house mood to comedy. Because the recording has no confirmed source, it works best as a general-purpose scary laugh rather than a recognizable quotation.

Known online as “Risata Horror,” Italian for “horror laugh,” this clip circulates as a standalone scary audio effect. Its original recording, performer, and production date are not confirmed. The sound has remained useful in short-form edits because its extended laugh can cover a complete reveal, reaction, or transition without dialogue. Creators commonly associate it with haunted scenes, villains, supernatural threats, and dark comedy. Its source-neutral quality also lets it fit many characters and settings without tying the edit to a particular film, game, or television series.
