About this sound

A short rewind sound effect inspired by tape running backward, commonly used for flashbacks, sudden corrections, resets, and funny editing moments.

Rewind 1.0 is a brief backward-moving audio effect that evokes a tape or video rapidly returning to an earlier point. Its rising, reversed texture immediately signals that time, dialogue, or an action is being pulled back. Editors often use it to interrupt a scene before replaying a mistake, revealing an earlier moment, or changing the outcome of a joke. Because the clip lasts less than two seconds, it creates a clear transition without delaying the next shot or overwhelming speech and other audio.

Rewind effects originated as recognizable mechanical cues from magnetic tape and videotape equipment, where recordings physically moved backward during playback or searching. Digital video editing preserved that familiar sound as a quick way to represent time reversing, even when no tape is involved. The effect became common in comedy edits, television transitions, online videos, and gaming clips. It remains useful because audiences understand its meaning almost instantly: the scene is returning to something that happened moments earlier.
