About this sound

A short clip of the PlayStation 2 startup sound from the console's boot sequence, used in gaming edits, nostalgia posts, reaction memes, and reveal videos.

This one-second sound captures a brief piece of the PlayStation 2 startup sequence. Its resonant electronic tone feels spacious, futuristic, and slightly mysterious, immediately recalling the moment before a game loads. Even without the accompanying boot screen, the audio can trigger strong nostalgia for players familiar with the console. Creators often use it to introduce retro gaming footage, mark a dramatic reveal, or make an ordinary startup look unusually important. The short length also makes it effective as a quick transition or recognizable reaction cue.

The PlayStation 2 was introduced in 2000, and its startup sequence became familiar to millions of players during the console's long commercial life. The atmospheric boot audio accompanied the system screen before games began, making it closely tied to anticipation and uncertainty about whether a disc would load. Short excerpts later circulated through gaming videos, remixes, memes, and nostalgic social posts. It remains recognizable because the sequence was repeated whenever the console started and is strongly associated with the early 2000s gaming era.
