About this sound

A short clip of PSY singing the iconic “Oppa Gangnam Style” hook from his 2012 K-pop hit, used for viral dance edits, throwbacks, and comic reveals.

This brief music clip captures the instantly recognizable vocal hook from PSY’s global hit. The emphatic delivery, driving dance beat, and familiar rhythm create an immediate burst of energy despite the clip lasting barely over a second. Viewers tend to recognize it before the phrase has finished, making it effective as a quick musical punchline or sudden transition. Its upbeat tone can turn an ordinary entrance, dance attempt, outfit reveal, or exaggerated display of confidence into a playful reference to the song and its famous horse-riding choreography.

“Gangnam Style” was released by South Korean artist PSY in July 2012. Its music video, distinctive choreography, and satirical portrayal of luxury culture helped it spread internationally through video sharing, parodies, reaction clips, and public dance performances. In December 2012, the official video became the first YouTube upload to reach one billion views. The shouted hook remains widely used because it is recognizable almost immediately, works in extremely short edits, and evokes the early-2010s wave of globally viral music videos.
