About this sound

The four-second Netflix intro sound is the familiar two-note “ta-dum” heard before original films and shows, often used to frame cinematic reveals.

This short clip captures Netflix’s recognizable sonic logo, a deep two-note “ta-dum” that plays as the red letter logo appears on screen. The first strike lands with a heavy, resonant impact, followed by a brighter rising tone and brief echo. Its compact length makes it feel decisive without delaying the next scene. Viewers immediately associate the sound with the start of a film, series, or special, so creators often use it to make an ordinary reveal feel like the opening of a polished streaming production.

Netflix introduced its compact “ta-dum” sonic logo in 2015 as a recognizable opening cue for its original programming. Sound designer Lon Bender developed the finished ident, which pairs a low impact with a rising, resonant finish. Its repetition before widely watched films and series made it closely associated with streaming entertainment. Online creators later adopted it for parody intros, title reveals, and jokes about binge-watching. Like the Law and Order DUN DUN, it remains useful because a very short sound can immediately signal a familiar screen experience.
