About this sound

The Motus Boule Noire sound is the dreaded black ball cue from the French TV game show, used in memes and edits to signal sudden failure.

This clip is the recognizable Boule Noire cue associated with Motus, the French word puzzle game show. It has a tense, game-show feel that instantly suggests bad luck, a wrong turn, or the moment everything goes against you. In edits, it works like a compact failure button: the sound lands fast, feels dramatic without being too long, and gives viewers the same sinking feeling as a contestant pulling the worst possible result. That makes it a natural fit for reaction videos, gaming mistakes, and punchline reveals.

The sound is tied to Motus, a long-running French television game show best known for wordplay and chance-based moments. The Boule Noire cue became memorable because it marked an especially unlucky outcome on the show. Online, French-speaking creators and meme pages reused it as a shorthand for instant failure, rotten luck, or the exact moment a plan collapses. It remains popular because viewers understand the joke even outside full Motus context: hear the cue, and something has clearly gone wrong.
