About this sound

The classic extra life sound effect from Mega Man games, used in memes, edits and gaming clips to signal a win, bonus or lucky save.

This sound is the short chime that plays when you collect a 1UP in Mega Man, instantly signaling an extra life or bonus. It is bright, quick and unmistakably retro, with that clean 8-bit game feel people associate with old-school platformers. Because it lands in just over a second, creators use it to punctuate lucky moments, clutch recoveries and small victories. On a viewer, it gives a satisfying hit of nostalgia while clearly communicating that something good, rare or helpful just happened on screen.

The Mega Man 1UP sound comes from Capcom's Mega Man series, where a 1UP gives the player an extra life. Like many short retro game cues, it spread online through gameplay videos, soundboards and meme edits because the meaning is instantly understood even without context. Creators still use it as a shorthand for survival, reward and second chances, especially in gaming content and nostalgic pixel-art edits. Its appeal comes from how fast it communicates success while carrying a classic NES-era feel.
