About this sound

Michael Buffer's iconic boxing introduction, Let's get ready to rumble, builds crowd excitement before a big fight, sports event or showdown moment.

This is the unmistakable ring-announcer call that turns a quiet arena into a roaring spectacle in seconds. Michael Buffer delivers the phrase slowly and powerfully, stretching each word with theatrical pauses before landing on rumble with a deep, booming emphasis that seems to shake the room. The crowd noise swelling behind him makes it feel live and larger than life, instantly signalling that something important is about to begin. Listeners recognise it immediately, even without seeing a boxing ring, because the delivery carries authority, ceremony and pure anticipation. It works as a dramatic cue that raises heart rates and focuses attention.

Michael Buffer, the veteran American boxing ring announcer, made this introduction his signature call during televised boxing cards in the 1980s, turning a simple announcement into a trademarked piece of sports theatre. As boxing, professional wrestling and major sporting events reached wider television audiences, the phrase travelled beyond the ring and into films, video games, commercials and internet memes, often alongside crowd cheering. Creators still use it because it instantly signals a main event, giving even an everyday challenge the weight and ceremony of a championship bout.
