About this sound

The classic Law & Order "dun dun" sound effect made by Mike Post, used in memes, edits and punchline cuts to make a moment feel dramatic.

This clip is the instantly recognizable two-hit Law & Order sting, often written as "dun dun" or "chung chung." It is short, sharp and dramatic, with a metallic punch that sounds like a case file slamming shut before the next reveal. In edits and memes, it works like a comedy gavel: drop it right after someone says something suspicious, gets caught, or does something absurdly serious. Even in a tiny clip, it adds tension, mock importance and that familiar crime-TV rhythm viewers recognize immediately.

This sound comes from the long-running TV franchise Law & Order, and the published clip description credits the famous sting to Mike Post. Online, the brief two-note hit spread far beyond the show because it instantly signals investigation, guilt or sudden seriousness. Creators use it as shorthand for “case closed” timing, especially in short memes, commentary edits and reaction clips. It remains popular because viewers recognize the tone in a split second, much like the Law and Order DUN DUN sting used in other soundboard clips.
