About this sound

The classic Keyboard Cat tune from the viral cat meme, used in fail edits, awkward endings and comedic cutaways when a clip needs a playful sendoff.

This sound is the familiar Keyboard Cat melody, the light, bouncy keyboard riff tied to one of the internet’s most recognizable animal memes. It has a cheerful, slightly goofy feel that instantly changes the mood of a clip, especially after a mistake, fail or abrupt ending. Because the tune is so well known, even a short section can signal a joke without any setup. Creators use it to soften cringe moments, turn accidents into punchlines and give videos an old-school meme finish that viewers recognize immediately.

Keyboard Cat became widely known from the viral video of Fatso, a cat shown playing a keyboard in footage originally recorded by Charlie Schmidt in 1984. The clip spread online in the late 2000s, especially through “Play him off, Keyboard Cat” edits that ended fail videos with the tune. Its staying power comes from how quickly the melody communicates irony, light embarrassment and classic internet humor. It remains a recognizable reference point in meme culture, particularly for throwback edits and comedic sendoffs.
