About this sound

The classic “I like turtles” news interview clip, used in memes and edits for awkward non-sequiturs, deadpan punchlines, and playful trolling.

This clip is the short, instantly recognizable line “I like turtles,” delivered with total sincerity in a brief news interview. The humor comes from how random and emotionally flat the answer sounds, especially when it appears after a serious setup or a dramatic pause. It works as a clean, low-effort punchline that turns confusion into comedy without needing extra context. In edits, the sound often lands as innocent chaos: not loud or aggressive, just perfectly off-topic in a way that catches viewers off guard and makes the moment feel weirdly wholesome.

The sound comes from a local TV news interview that went viral online in 2007, when a child named Jonathan Ware answered a reporter with the now-famous line while dressed like a zombie. The clip spread across YouTube, forums, and meme compilations because its timing felt completely surreal yet genuine. It still shows up in short edits, reaction posts, and awkward humor compilations for the same reason sounds like Awkward Moment remain popular: they instantly signal a funny disconnect between the setup and the answer.
