About this sound

A clip of The Caretaker's It's Just a Burning Memory, widely used in backrooms and liminal space memes for eerie, nostalgic edits.

This sound is a short excerpt of the haunting ballroom-style track It's Just a Burning Memory by The Caretaker. It has a faded, crackly old-record texture with a slow, dreamy melody that feels nostalgic at first, then unsettling. In backrooms and goofy ahh edits, the contrast between the gentle music and strange visuals gives scenes a surreal, off-kilter mood. It often makes empty rooms, awkward camera pans, or low-quality meme clips feel weirdly emotional, eerie, or absurd in a way that viewers instantly recognize.

The sound comes from It's Just a Burning Memory by The Caretaker, released in 2016 on the album Everywhere at the End of Time. Online, the track became closely tied to liminal space, nostalgic horror, and backrooms-style videos because its warped vintage sound fits images of empty, uncanny places. It spread across short-form edits, meme compilations, and atmospheric posts, where creators used it to make ordinary spaces feel distant, eerie, or emotionally strange without needing dialogue.
