About this sound

The recognizable horn from the Dukes of Hazzard car became a meme sound for dramatic entrances and old-school chase humor edits.

This clip is the unmistakable horn from the General Lee, the orange Dodge Charger in The Dukes of Hazzard. Instead of a normal beep, it plays the short, bright Dixie melody that instantly signals a fast entrance, a country car chase or a throwback TV reference. The sound is cheerful, loud and attention grabbing, so it lands well in comedic edits and vehicle videos. Even in a very short clip, viewers usually recognize it right away and connect it with classic Southern-style action and over-the-top driving scenes.

The sound is associated with the General Lee, the Dodge Charger driven by Bo and Luke Duke in the television series The Dukes of Hazzard, which debuted in 1979. The car became famous in part because its horn played the tune commonly known as Dixie. Over time, short clips of that horn spread through fan uploads, soundboards and meme edits. It is still used because the melody is instantly recognizable and quickly communicates a classic TV car reference with only a few notes.
