About this sound

François Damiens in his l'Embrouille character saying et qu'est-ce que vous voulez que ça m'foute, the dismissive French line used for reaction clips and memes.

A short, blunt line delivered by François Damiens in character as François l'Embrouille, the phrase translates roughly to what do you expect me to care about it. He says it flatly and with total indifference, as if the problem in front of him is not worth a second of attention. The delivery is dry, slightly annoyed and completely unbothered, which is what makes it funny. In a clip it instantly turns a complaint, an insult or an urgent request into something the speaker is happily ignoring, giving the moment a rude, deadpan punch.

François l'Embrouille is the obnoxious, overconfident character played by Belgian comedian François Damiens in hidden camera sketches where he provokes strangers and officials with absurd confidence. The line comes from that world of deadpan confrontation, where the character refuses to take any situation seriously. Clips of Damiens were widely shared on French speaking video sites and social networks, and short excerpts became reaction sounds. This phrase survived because its meaning is clear even from the tone alone, so editors reuse it whenever a character needs to shrug off pressure, blame or bad news.
