About this sound

A short, muted impact sound credited to Gregory Weir. People use this dull thud for fails, weak hits, awkward falls, and deadpan comedy edits.

This clip is a very short, low-energy impact sound with a soft, blunt hit instead of a sharp smack or explosive crash. It lands quickly, then disappears, which makes it useful when you want something to feel underwhelming, clumsy, or slightly awkward. The tone suggests a padded object, a weak collision, or a body drop without any graphic detail. In edits, it often adds a dry comedic beat, especially when a visual moment needs a small payoff rather than a huge dramatic sound.

This sound is listed as Dull Thud and credited in the file metadata to Gregory Weir. It is best understood as a general-purpose stock impact effect rather than a quote or character audio. Short blunt hit sounds like this spread widely through meme edits, gaming clips, and reaction videos because they communicate contact without sounding too violent or over-the-top. Creators still use them when a louder option like a metal pipe clang would feel exaggerated for the visual gag.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Dull Thud sound effect?

It is a very short muted impact sound, like a soft blunt hit or underpowered collision. Creators use it when they want a small physical payoff that feels awkward, understated, or quietly funny rather than dramatic.

Where is this dull thud sound from?

The available file metadata credits Gregory Weir, but it does not identify a movie, game, or meme scene as the source. It is mainly treated as a general sound effect used in edits, skits, and short videos.

When should I use a dull thud instead of a louder hit sound?

Use it when the visual moment is minor, clumsy, or intentionally unimpressive, such as a weak bonk, small drop, or awkward fall. For huge reveals or hard impacts, a stronger sound usually fits better than this muted thud.
