About this sound

A classic DJ rewind sound effect that mimics a track being spun backward. People use it in memes, edits, and punchline resets before a beat drop.

This clip is the familiar DJ rewind effect: a short burst of audio that sounds like a record or track being pulled backward to reset the moment. It has a scratchy, rising-backward texture that instantly signals a rewind, restart, or dramatic take-back. In videos, it creates a sudden break in the flow, making the next line or visual hit harder. Because the sound is so recognizable, viewers immediately read it as a cue for replaying a moment, correcting a scene, or setting up a louder second attempt.

The DJ rewind sound effect comes from DJ and sound system culture, where performers would spin a record backward or use a rewind-style effect to pull a track back and restart a hype moment. Variations of the sound became common in radio production, club edits, and meme videos long before short-form platforms made it a quick comedy cue. It is still popular because the meaning is instantly clear: stop, rewind, and try that moment again with more impact.

It comes from DJ performance techniques and broadcast-style audio production, where a track would be pulled back or recreated with an effect to restart a section. Today, the sound is mostly used as a comedic or dramatic editing cue.
