About this sound

Cornifer’s gentle humming from Hollow Knight captures the cartographer at work, often used in gaming edits to suggest exploring, mapping, or calm.

This clip features Cornifer quietly humming his familiar melody in Hollow Knight. The wandering cartographer can often be heard before he is seen, making the tune a helpful signal that a map seller is nearby. Its soft, absent-minded vocal rhythm feels warm and reassuring against the game’s shadowy underground setting. For viewers who recognize it, the sound immediately evokes exploration, hand-drawn maps, and the relief of finding a friendly character in an unfamiliar area. It also works as a playful cue for someone concentrating on directions or getting pleasantly lost.

Cornifer is the traveling cartographer from Hollow Knight, the 2017 action-adventure game developed by Team Cherry. Players encounter him throughout Hallownest, usually following a trail of discarded paper and listening for his distinctive humming nearby. Because the melody announces access to an area map, it became closely associated with discovery, navigation, and temporary safety. Fans continue using the clip in gameplay videos, animations, and memes about getting lost, exploring unfamiliar places, or carefully charting a route.
