About this sound

The iconic Evangelion congratulations scene with clapping and voices from Neon Genesis Evangelion, used for ironic praise, absurd wins and punchline endings.

This clip is the famous congratulations moment from Neon Genesis Evangelion, where a group of voices applauds and repeats congratulations over steady clapping. It has a strangely uplifting but slightly surreal tone, which makes it work as both a sincere payoff and an ironic joke. Creators use it when someone finally succeeds, reaches an obvious conclusion, or gets praised far more dramatically than the situation deserves. The mix of anime voices and ceremonial applause gives even a tiny victory a bizarre, over-the-top sense of emotional closure.

This sound comes from the ending of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the 1995-1996 anime series. In the final episode, characters congratulate Shinji during one of the show's most recognizable scenes, often remembered online simply as the congratulations scene. The clip spread widely through anime fandom, remix videos, and meme edits because it can sound heartfelt or sarcastic depending on context. It still shows up in reaction posts and short videos whenever someone wants a dramatic, exaggerated sense of approval.
