About this sound

A laugh track from Chaves, the Brazilian name for El Chavo del Ocho, used in memes, funny edits and reaction videos to highlight awkward jokes.

This sound is the familiar background laughter heard in Chaves, the Portuguese-dubbed version of El Chavo del Ocho. It is a short burst of canned audience laughs that instantly makes a moment feel like a sitcom punchline. The clip is often used after bad jokes, clumsy fails or intentionally corny scenes to add ironic approval. Because so many viewers grew up hearing it on TV, the laugh carries a nostalgic tone while still working as a simple comedy cue that tells the viewer exactly when to laugh.

This laugh is associated online with Chaves, the title used in Brazil for the Mexican sitcom El Chavo del Ocho created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños. The show's dubbed broadcasts made its background laughter widely recognizable to Portuguese-speaking audiences. Over time, creators began isolating the laugh track and using it in memes, remixes and short videos as a shorthand for forced comedy or retro television humor. It remains popular because the sound is instantly understood, nostalgic and easy to place after a visual beat.
